Children with a medical condition which renders them different from others need help in coming to terms with their situation. They will probably be fearful of hospital procedures, wondering why their bodies aren’t the same as they used to be, and feeling isolated from all the “normal” people around them, particularly their friends.
The Shadow Buddies Foundation has come up with a practical solution to this problem, in the form of Shadow Buddies: dolls designed to show the same outward indications as the child, which can be used to explain the condition to the child, to remain with the child as a friend who shares the same condition, and subsequently to help the child to explain the condition to friends and classmates.
